Research Projects

Funded by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), the project aims at analyzing stabilization methods for lumbar spine. Finite element mesh model is employed in determining effect of various intraspinous process devices and screws. Biomechanical parameters such as range of motion, intradiscal pressure, and stress in posterior elements are investigated in each scenario.

Finite Element Modelling & Posterior Dynamic Stabilization of Lumbar Spine (2013-15)
Whiplash Injury Disorders (2014)

Hybrid dummy test and finite element analysis of whiplash is being carried out. Improved head rest was tested for its effectiveness in reducing occurance of whiplash injury. Image and Signal processing of recorded data was done to classify effect of headrest material on the risk of whiplash injury.

EEG Waveform Analyzer for Epilepsy (2012-13)

In epileptic seizures, it is difficult to determine epilepsy using EEG as EEG raw data includes both excitatory and inhibitory potentials. An EEG Waveform Analyzer was desinged which located chunks of the EEG recording in epileptiform regions. This served as a Clinical Decision Support System to assist the EEG department at the Pakistan Institute of Mental Health (PIMH).

Lumbar Asymmetrical 3D Finite Element Mesh Development (2012)

This project was done as part of Summer Research Program at Ko\c c University under supervision of Dr. Ismail Lazoglu. Using CT scans of healthy patient, the accurate geometery of lumbar spine was extracted. The resulting 3D surface was meshed and assigned material properties.

Finite Element Model Development & Analysis of Knee, Femur & Tibia (2015- )

Finite element model of knee and associated femur and tibia bones is being developed using 20-node elements. The geometry is based on CT scans of a female lower extemities. Material properties and boundary conditions will be taken from published cadaver studies. Validation with respect to range of motion and stress will be carried out. Validated model will be used for further studies.
